The cartoon

A routine but striking cartoon that incorporates the style of the celebrated Piddington cartoon view of the solar interior (but with better guesses than the "j = General" zone shown there, which is probably an improvement). Another classic in the genre shows the magnetic emergence process. The coronal sketch emphasizes the role of the environment of the active region, i.e. the corona around it. Environmental influences are often discussed in other branches of astrophysics, e.g. with respect to black holes in galactic nuclei. So, why not here?
