Illustration of an attractive mechanism that makes use of one sort of QPP to trigger electron cyclotron maser activity (ECM) and thereby to become prominent in LOFAR radio spectroscopy. This QPP would be No. 2, the "sausage mode" of standing waves on a cylindrical structure. Although in this case the observation relates to coronal regions not really implicated in flare energetics in any significant way, many other cartoons envision significant energy transport via other wave modes.
