A novel cartoon involving two filaments, reflecting the structure of the CME as well as the preflare configuration. One sees the "backbone magnetic field" here as the (stronger?) elongated field of the cavity surrounding the filament, interpreted here as intertwining with two distinct filaments. The Archivist thinks that this is a variant of the "tether-cutting" cartoon, for which the Archive has abundant examples.
