Coupling effects throughout the solar atmosphere: 2. Model of energetically open circuit

Reviving the electric-circuit analog for energy storage, a minority theme in this field (initiated, probably, in the Alfvén-Carlqvist model and underpinning the Martens-Kuin cartoon as well. The field lines thread a patch meant to represent the transition region. In contrast, the field between photosphere and corona probably splays out radically in this "connection zone" in which instabilities might proliferate. The Archivist confesses to having been daunted by the complexity of this paper, but certainly it is tackling important ideas in a framework that might well provide insight.
