Kundu, Mukul R., Solar radio astronomy, (1965) (ADS)

A cartoon from the excellent early book of our late friend Mukul Kundu,
from which the Archivist learned to appreciate the radio perspective.
It is an early representation of something like the
thick-target model," a view of particle
acceleration in the corona as a source both of flare effects in the lower atmosphere,
plus radio signatures.
This appeared in a COSPAR paper as a
hand-drawn version version.
Note the innocence and purity involved in drawing a cartoon
with no hint either of reconnection, or even of magnetic fields for
that matter! Note that the cm-wavelength region is physically higher
than the X-ray region; in fact the 10-cm limb may be on the order
of 10 arc sec above the photosphere.
