Balltracking - An ultra efficient method for tracking flow fields

1. Cartoon representation of the algorithm

A cartoon representation of the balltrack method. A tracer or ball is 'dropped' onto the surface where it settles to a local minima. It is then pushed along by the travelling disturbances. The data surface used here is just a travelling 2d sine wave, with some added noise, but the ball motion is generated by the balltracking algorithm. Note that the small wavelength noise has negligible effect on the ball motion.
