E.1.1 The SGML status of this project

The SGML application conforms to the SGML [iso8879] and HyTime [iso10744] standards. The processing system uses DSSSL (see Appendix E.1.3 and [iso10179]), which is a standard, but generates HTML using DSSSL extensions specific to Jade, and generates LaTeX using DSSSL extensions specific to a patched version of Jade.

A good deal of effort has been invested in making the SGML side of this project both robust and correct. `Correct' here means a lot more than merely `it works': it means that it conforms with both the letter and the spirit of the SGML standard, and with the occasionally nebulous notions of `best practice' for SGML applications.
