IVOA Vocabularies, release wd-1.0, 2008 June 2 This is the set of SKOS vocabularies associated with the IVOA Note http://www.ivoa.net/Documents/WD/Semantics/Vocabularies-20080602 These vocabularies have base URIs that start with http://www.astro.gla.ac.uk/users/norman/ivoa/vocabularies/rdf/ Notes on Converting A&A Keywords List ===================================== Frederic Hessmen provided an xml representation of the file which contained equivalences to ucds. Norman added the hierarchy to the file by creating the categories as concepts. Alasdair identified that some concepts were missing and added them. - Stars: oscillations - Galaxies: active - Galaxies: clusters: individual: ... - Galaxies: star clusters Alasdair has added the collections to the file. - Astronomical instrumentation, methods and techniques: space vehicles I was unsure what to do with this one. I have added a collection which has itself as a concept. - Astronomical data bases: miscellaneous Issue about how to interpret this. I have left it as a concept rather than a collection. - The Sun For now, I have added a collection between the general concept 'The Sun' and the concepts 'Sun: xxx'. - Planets: rings I have left this unchanged. Should it be part of Planets and Satellites? - Stars Handled in the same way as 'The Sun' - Stars: Binaries (including multiple) I have added this to the collection 'Stars: Binaries'. - Stars: Planetary Systems I have added this to a collection of the same name. - The Galaxy Handled in the same way as 'The Sun' - Galaxies Handled in the same way as 'The Sun' The AVM taxonomy ================ taxonomy.txt was created by cutting and pasting from the AVM 1.1 final draft PDF at . The UCD vocabulary ================== The UCD-master.ttl.in file was originally generated by a script converting Frederic Hessman's XML version of the UCD list into a turtle representation in skos. The UCD-master.ttl.in has had subsequent edits to correct definitions and add scope notes. It would be better if this were generated from a version of the standardised UCD list. IVOA Thesaurus ============== Modified version of the 1993 IAU Thesaurus Files imported from , and the Makefile minimally adjusted, after renaming to Makefile.in and merging with the build conventions of this tree. That is, this is not the master of these files. IAU Thesaurus 1993 Version ========================== Copied TREX.txt LEXICON output of 1993 version of IAU Thesaurus from http://www.aao.gov.au/lib/thesaurus.html Removed the header and footer information so that the file only contains the details of the terms. thesuarus.py copied from IVOAT directory and adjusted to accept the LEXICON output as input. Minor alterations made to internal state labels to avoid confusion with strings in the input file. multiling.txt is identical to the file in the original distribution, except that it has LF line endings, and an ISO-8869-1 character (i-diaeresis) is changed to Unicode.
