University of Glasgow letter class

University of Glasgow letter template, including logo

Version 2.4, 2018 December 09.

This distribution includes the gulogo package, which provides some simple support for displaying and positioning the University logo, and defining various colours. It is designed to be useful for other applications beyond the guletter class, such as LaTeX posters or other documents. See gulogo.pdf for documentation. The gulogo package is relatively low-level, so may take more TeX knowledge to use.

The gulogo package is available for download as a separate package. The guletter download includes it, however, so you don’t have to download it separately, if it’s the letter style you’re looking for.

Installation

To install this package, copy the guletter.cls, gulogo.sty, and the gulogo_*.pdf and gulogo_*.eps files to ‘somewhere LaTeX can find them’. One way is simply to deposit the files in the same directory as the source file, but if you want to install them more ‘properly’, here's how.

You need to put the files somewhere on the TeX input path. This might be some location such as $HOME/local/texmf/latex/guletter (the unix command kpsepath tex will give a long list of possibilities; there will be an analogous command on Windows systems). Then re-index the style files with the command mktexlsr or sudo mktexlsr. You can verify that LaTeX can see the files with the command kpsewhich guletter.cls – that should return the path to the guletter.cls file which LaTeX will use.

Releases

2.4, 2018 December 9
2.3.2, 2013 November 29
2.3.1, 2013 March 13
Very minor layout and packaging fixes; added compatibility support for do-nothing [final] option.
2.3, 2011 June 26
Updated PandA address details. Added \signaturegraphic command. Added [height] option to the gulogo package’s \GUlogo command. Fixed \pounds (but I’ve said that before).
2.2, 2010 August 27
2.1.1, 2009 December 2
Packaging changes, releasing the gulogo package as a separate download (though it’s still included within the guletter download).
2.1, 2009 February 16
Add \departmentlogotext option, and use in department-specific options, so that departments now get their names in the logo, rather than only the faculty.
2.0-4, 2009 January 5
Reinstate support for your/our ref, and correct position of fold line.
2.0-3, 2009 January 4
Fix XeTeX colour stack handling. At some point, it appears that the XeTeX {color push} special has changed to {color push [spec...]} (at least by XeTeX version 3.1415926-2.2-0.999.6). Fixed and generalised. There is a possibility that this may break with older XeTeXs, but that’s not a major problem, since XeTeX is still fairly beta-ish.
2.0-2, 2008 June 16
Omitting any department is now an error, but the documentation has been updated to confirm that the \department can be any organisational unit, not just bona fide departments. Other documentation tweaks.
2.0-1, 2008 April 16
The default body text is now right-justified, with a [raggedright] option added to restore the ragged-right setting.
2.0, 2008 March 5
Unchanged from 2.0b5
2.0b5, 2008 January 23
Documentation adjustments. Adjusted XeTeX mode so that body text is now definitely in black, rather than the university blue.
2.0b4, 2008 January 16
[gulogo] The distributed .eps file is now mildly preprocessed, and is much smaller. The rule beside the logo is now correctly positioned even if the text has descenders.
2.0b3, 2008 January 14
[gulogo] Reworked the gulogo package, to add the \GUlogo command, which allows you to set the width and side-text of the logo, and place it in a TeX box. Note that the interface in the gulogo class has therefore changed from v2.0b2, which in turn was different from that in versions before 2.0.
2.0b2, 2008 January 7
Added the catch-all guletter class option, so that option [Foo] will load file Foo.clo if it is present, to support multiple roles
2.0b1, 2008 January 7
Substantial rewrite for new ‘corporate’ identity. First beta release.
