An early calculation unifying ideas about radio type II progenitor shock
waves and Moreton waves.
These could both be due to a fast-mode MHD blast wave launched by the
flare energy release.
It has turned out that type II bursts almost always have accompanying
CMEs, and so the CME bow shock
is implicated - it too being describable as a fast-mode shock probably,
but one that is continuously driven until the ICME peters out.
