A rare cartoon devoted to the physics of white-light flare formation, featuring apparently all relevant mechanisms including backwarming. As usual, the assumption in this model sees particles streaming down from a black-box source in the corona, the standard thick-target, never mind its difficulties. But that is not so important for the discussion of the radiation mechanisms at play in the lower atmosphere.
