The cartoon

This cartoon describes the behavior of a flux tube linking the ionosphere of the Earth to the solar wind. This would presumably have a solar analog in "interchange reconnection". From the Archivist's point of view, this cartoon has an air of authenticity because it refers to flux tubes, rather than field lines. That makes sense because this paper explains flux transfer events, and of course a field line contains no flux to transfer.
