The "collapsing trap" as applied to Yohkoh hard X-ray imaging observations. This concept makes use of a combination of the betatron acceleration and first-order Fermi acceleration mechanisms to (further) accelerate particles in the dynamic environment of a solar flare. No doubt these processes function, but to what degree in a given case? That collapse should happen makes perfectlly good sense from both the CSHKP point of view and that of energy conservation.
