The cartoon

This important cartoon aims at linking the power of stochastic acceleration imagined to come from "Alfvénic scatterers" AS, with large-scale field structures. These AS seem to be called UCS (for Unstable Current Sheets) in a more ordinary Vlahos cartoon. Here the red dots are the scatterers, however initialized, and the left panel shows a large-scale restructuring of the sort that might do the trick. Note that the authors hedge their bets - if the looptop does not contain enough particles, which seems likely, then one can always turn to the footpoints.
