Illustration of how a flare may excite quasi-peridic oscillations in
large-scale loop structures on the periphery of its active region.
The discovery of these "QPPs" has had a major influence on how we
understand coronal magnetic structures; in this case it looks a
little bit awkward as the canonical CSHKP sketch
is just grafted on near an oscillation loop, and the mechanism
of coupling simply described as a "leaking part" of the
presumably oscillating flare structure.
But these typically are at very different periods.
The early McLean cartoon
offers an alternative view.
