An early effort in a very important direction: can we make use of the
highest-resolution imaging observations to understand how homologous
flares work?
Here the idea is that a single footpoint region can successively reconnect
to different conjugate footpoints in the different events.
This naively conflicts with the idea at magnetic reconnection is a dissipative
process and that you can't put Humpty-Dumpty back together again.
This is a question already for the
corona,
but obviously it's much more delicate with
high-resolution observations
and will become even more interesting as DKIST data begin to appear.
