This cartoon complicates the idea that time variability in a solar outflow region, as viewed by a light curve obtained telescopically, might morph into and be identifiable with a time variation observed by a remote spacecraft, such as the Parker Solar Probe. Another alternative would be that the time variations of the source would map into spatial variations in the solar wind, and that this structure could then be transposed back into the time domain by the spacecraft's rapid motion. In any case we eagerly await the identification of the patterns of magnetic connectivity between the Sun and the heliosphere.
