About the Conference

The Conference of Astronomy and Physics Students is an Institute of Physics event, held each year in a different location aroundthe UK. It allows students from different sides of the UK and Ireland to come together and get to know each other in a relaxed conference setting. From the 23rd to the 26th of June 2016, the conference will be held at the University of Glasgow.

Student talks allow us to get some experience in presenting  in front of a large number of people and also allow us to show what we are interested in within the world of Physics and Astronomy. The poster competition is a great way to exhibit the research done by undergraduate and postgraduate students. There are also guest lectures given by professors and researchers fro
m around the country to see the cutting edge research and topics that they are working on. The conference is a valuable place to network and make some great new friends and contacts.

usnCAPS provides you with an opportunity to visit a new university and gain an insight into what their physics and astronomy departments offer. There will also be many chances to explore the university campus as well as travel around the city of Glasgow in your free time.

So come and join us at the University of Glasgow, the fourth oldest university in the English speaking world, for CAPS 2016! You’ll be able to sample the Scottish delicacy of a fried Mars bar in our beautiful university’s cloisters and have a ceilidh dance after witnessing the Address to a Haggis in our Burns’ Night dinner, all in the world’s friendliest city!
