Even compared to free-flyer in space . . .

(Only) On the far side of the Moon, we can avoid all the distracting radiations from Earth (scattered light, thermal flux, radio interference).
During the 2 weeks of Lunar night, we can avoid all the distracting radiations from the Sun.
The temperature is as low as 80K in polar regions (reduced thermal noise in detectors).
- 40K inside permanently shadowed craters (coldest place in the Solar System!)
Maintenance / upgrade is possible ( -> longer lifetime).
- easily accessible especially with a base on the Moon
Lunar surface is a stable platform for interferometry.
- very low level of seismic/tidal activity
- In free space, a observatory gets displaced by gravitational fields
- In free space, motions are induced from destabilizing/corrective forces
Moon has regolith to use as shields.
- to shield from micrometeorites & radiation.
- to shield from temperature extremes (eliminate thermal stresses)
- Below 30cm, temperature is steady 250K +/- 2~4K.
Lunar surface has less micrometeorids flux (because the Moon shields one direction).
Some gravity could be useful.
So let's go and observe the Universe from the Moon!
