The meeting will have the additional goal of discussing current EIS science goals nationally. We particularly encourage postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers to attend. ** Please note that registration for the meeting will close on Saturday 13th June.** The EIS UK Meeting will be hosted by UCL on its central London Bloomsbury campus (with associated good transport links) on Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th July 2009. (Note that the Near Universe Advisory Panel meeting, also in London, will be held on Thursday 9th July.) While the first part of the meeting will aim to bring attendees up to speed on EIS as it is used, we would very much like to encourage scientific discussion. To that end, scientific presentations contributed by attendees will form the main part of the meeting, with an obvious emphasis on EIS data. All guests will be asked to make at least a short oral presentation on their work related to EIS. Guests are encouraged to bring laptop computers in order to join in interactive demonstrations of techniques and learning tools. Wireless access will also be available for those who want it. (We regret that we are able to provide technical support only for wireless connections, and not other computer problems so please ensure that your computer has IDL, an up-to-date web browser (Firefox, Safari, etc.) with Flash plugins, and the necessary branches of SolarSoft (gen, eis, as well as whatever you normally use) installed.) We can accommodate a limited number of guests, due to space and available facilities for networking, so please register early. A modest fee will be applicable to cover refreshments each day and an on-site lunch on the 8th of July. Further information, including registation, meeting schedule, local travel information, and accommodation, is available by going to our website at http://tinyurl.com/eisuk or by contacting David Williams (drw@mssl.ucl.ac.uk) or Louise Harra (lkh@mssl.ucl.ac.uk). Looking forward to seeing you in London! David. Fischer, Co-Convener: F. Mottez Key topis of this session are the recent developments in the study of non-thermal radio emissions from the Sun, the five radio planets, and potential radio emissions from exoplanets. Special emphasis is put on current missions like Cassini and STEREO, but also new findings from data of older missions (Voyager, Galileo, Wind, Ulysses) and ground- based observations are welcome. Presentations should focus on physical properties of radio emissions like rotational modulation, fine structures in dynamic spectra, polarization as well as source direction, and theorectical modeling and simulation of plasma and magnetic processes leading to their generation. Key question for potential future missions like Juno, Solar Orbiter or Laplace can also be addressed. New developments in ground-based radio telescopes (e.g. LOFAR, FASR) will be matters of discussion, that should lead to a better coordination of ground- and space-based observations. Oral as well as poster presentations are welcome. http://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EPSC2009/session/1741 *************************************** From: "Bamford, RA (Ruth)" Plasmas, Computation, and Mathematics Conf. Ambleside, UK, 18-21 May 2009 We would like to remind you that the deadline of registration for the Plasmas, Computation & Mathematics Workshop has been set at 31 May, which is now approaching. This workshow will take place at the University of Cumbria, Ambleside Campus, United Kingdom, from 18 to 21 July 2009. This workshop aims to bring together researchers from all areas of theoretical plasma physics to discuss their work and exchange ideas in the beautiful setting of the English Lake District. The workshop will cover the application of analytic and numerical mathematics to solve a wide range of problems in theoretical plasma physics. Workshop topics include: magnetohydrodynamics, beam-plasma instabilities, intense laser-plasma interactions, technological plasmas and astrophysical plasmas. The registration fee (?220) includes accommodation and all meals during the conference period. More information on registration, abstract submission and payments can be found here: http://www.clf.rl.ac.uk/news/Meetings/2009/plasmas_computation_maths/registration.html You will find more information on our website: http://www.clf.rl.ac.uk/news/Meetings/2009/plasmas_computation_maths/index.htm For any queries, you can also contact David Burton (d.burton@lancaster.ac.uk) or Raoul Trines (raoul.trines@stfc.ac.uk).
