Testing that wine behaves like various Windows platforms is difficult. The documentation Microsoft provides is not always accurate or complete. This becomes a problem when applications (deliberately or inadvertently) come to depend on some undocumented behaviour of Windows, as the wine conformance tests then need to test the undocumented behaviour.

So, not only do we need to test that wine passes the conformance test-suite but also that the test-suite accurately captures real-world Windows behaviour. Testing the test-suite against real Window machines is a separate but related task. The results of these tests are available here.
