3 Marking up your document

In this section I will introduce you to SGML from the point of view of writing a document marked up using the particular set of SGML element types this application defines. There are many features of SGML which I will not describe, for simplicity and brevity, but if you wish to find out more about the possibilities of SGML, then see the more detailed documentation in Appendix A or, for the most authoritative (but admittedly largely incomprehensible) documentation, the SGML standard [iso8879].
