Social Events

There will be several social events on the evenings during the meeting.

You will be able to book tickets for the reception (free) and dinner/ceilidh (fee payable with registration fee) during the online registration.

Reception: Glasgow City Chambers [Monday 12th April]

The meeting reception will be hosted by Glasgow City Council in the City Chambers, situated in the heart of the city centre. This reception includes drinks and canapés. Although the reception is free we require you to reserve tickets during the registration process.

This is expected to run from 18:30 to 20:00.

Science in the Pub: The Admiral Bar [Monday 12th April]

A "Science in the Pub" Q&A panel session, led by Fred Watson of AAO, is planned for Monday 12th from 20.30-23.00 directly after the Civic Reception. Fred Watson makes frequent appearances on Australian radio and TV, which, together with his books, public lectures and astronomy tourism expeditions, have resulted in several awards.

The venue will be the The Admiral Bar in the City Centre, about a 10/15 min walk from the City Chambers (Google directions). The venue is a regular haunt of Glasgow Skeptics in the Pub who are kindly assisting with that event. During registration please select if you might want to attend to help the venue with planning food.

Given the location of Science in the Pub it can only accomodate about 100 delegates.

Dinner & Ceilidh: Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum [Wednesday 14th April]

The meeting dinner will be followed by a traditional ceilidh both in the spectacular Kelvingrove Art gallery and Museum, situated just down the hill from the University.

The cost of the dinner & ceilidh is £44.75 per person (included are a welcome drink, drinks during the meal and the ceilidh) which is payable during the registration process. You will also need to select your main course during registration, see below for the menu.

This is expected to run from 19:00 to 24:00.

5-a-side Football: Kelvinhall International Sports Arena [Tuesday 13th April]

This year's competition will occur indoors in a sporting venue that has held many an international sporting event, the Kelvinhall, just a few moments walk from the University.

To register for the NAM 2010 5-a-side football tournament, please send an email to nam2010football@gmail.com with the name of your team, the institute/group you represent and the names of your players. You will need to have 5 or more players to have a valid team.

This is expected to run from 18:00 to 21:00.
