The perils of imaging spectroscopy well illustrated, at least as applied to the interpretation of models. Here a beautiful mult-stranded loop system imaged by TRACE in 1999 has an overlay suggesting how to integrate the image for comparison with 1D radiation hydrodynamics models. pretty clearly the integration box does not match any of the observed loops, and this points to substantial systematic error especially when integrating multiple wave bands. This does not mean that a 1D model may not work well; it certainly may for many interesting purposes. But not generally; see Hori's original step away from this viewpoint.
